Post-communist Russia's highest grossing film to date, 9TH COMPANY is a stirring and extremely timely modern day war movie on a par with Hollywood blockbusters 'Full Metal Jacket' and 'Platoon'. Based on real events, the film follows the ill-fated fortunes of a small group of young Russian soldiers, from the trials of boot camp to their arrival in the heart of the war zone and the climactic, bloody battle that made them heroes.

4.5 out of 10 Frightening portrayal of life in the army.
John from Donegal, 24 Apr 2009
A group of Russians go through training for a tour of duty in Afganistan. Excellent, but very distressing film based on a true story. The lives of these men are so much harder then their USA counterparts. The acting was good, and the ending, though sad, really made me think. Not for the faint hearted.

Like Full Metal Jacket the movie in Russian, but not a copy. Tells the story of of a squad 9th company Russian recruits for the war in Afghanistan in the 80s. The film starts just as the company is recruited right up until the full fledged war they find themselves thrown into, in the Desert.

Rubbish war film .Makes Rambo 3 look like the definitive film on the Soviet Afghan war. Not at all like "Platoon" although it does try to copy scenes from that movie. The only good thing about this film is that one of the actors looks like James Coburn !!
