4.5 out of 10 Loved It
Caroline from Laois, 29 Apr 2008
Out before most of the tv prison stuff. This is above the likes of fantasy Prison Break etc. But if you tend to watch Worlds Worst Prisons etc on Discovery then get this one for a quiet night in. It's been a while since I saw it but remember really being glued to this. Never saw much about it or even if it was in the cinema. Anyways, trust me, the film is real good. It's not fast paced so don't expect it to be full of blood, guts & action. It is full of thought provoking stuff. Rent it & Review!

2.5 out of 10 Prison Drama.
Robert from Kildare, 17 Oct 2007
Gritty, Grim, and bleak movie that chronicles the life of two main characters in the confines of an American prison. Interesting script with some real insights into life inside! Worth looking at if you want to get a real insight into life doing porridge!

1.5 out of 10 taken itself too seriously
A member from Dublin, 01 Mar 2008
this film thinks it's too serious for it's own good. Overlong and a bit of i've seen it all before in the prison dramas you can watch on tv.

What's it about....
Set in San Quentin jail, ANIMAL FACTORY is a bleak prison drama where Edward Furlong plays young Ron a middle-class petty dope dealer who, in this hard violent environment, is befriended and protected by Earl Copen (Willem Dafoe in a strong chilling performance) a long term convict. Ron's comfortable upbringing proves inadequate preparation for the harsh reality of a two year sentence behind bars, but with Earl's powerful help, he plans their escape.
