1 out of 10 Oh God please make it stop
Seamus from Monaghan, 04 Dec 2012
This is the fascinating story of one of the most controversial people who ever lived. A man who effected and affected the lives of millions and whose influence is felt to this day. And for some reason the story is told in 'shuffle' mode. We see our hero and his partner enter a lift as elderly men in the 60's they leave the lift as young men back in the 50's. Why? We are given versions of well known stories but they truncated and twisted so we don't know what we're watching. Why am I being so harsh? The acting is brilliant but for a film I was looking forward to it's a shambles.

4 out of 10 Worth Watching
Kerrie from Roscommon, 18 Jun 2012
Very interesting story revealing the life of Hoover. It makes me want to delve a little deeper into the story as he was a strange character going by this film. Di Caprio was convincing in the role but was let down by the make up aging him, it was badly done, however Naomi Watts looked perfectly convincing. I enjoyed Armie Hammer who you might recognise from his role(s)! as the Winklevoss twins from 'the social network'

3.5 out of 10 Should be great..but...
Nuala from Dublin, 10 May 2013
Over all, the best thing you can say about it is that it was "very interesting" and beautifully filmed and I would in no way say it was not a good film but I expected more from Mr Eastwood. Worth watching but there is a better film to be made about J edger Hover

1 out of 10 Unsatisfying experience
Brian from Dublin, 30 Oct 2012
Quite an unpleasant film about an unpleasant individual. Coming from Clint Eastwood I found it very disappointing.

0.5 out of 10 Tedious
Clare from Wicklow, 12 Jun 2013
Boring, boring, boring and what's the story with the make up? Time for Clint Eastwood to retire!

What's it about....
As the face of law enforcement in America for almost fifty years, J. Edgar Hoover was feared and admired, reviled and revered. But behind closed doors, he held secrets that would have destroyed his image, his career and his life. Under the direction of Clint Eastwood, Leonardo DiCaprio stars in the title role of "J. Edgar," a drama that explores the public and private life of one of the most powerful, controversial and enigmatic figures of the 20th century.
