4 out of 10 Loved It
Caroline from Laois, 24 Apr 2008
If you ever travel alone and spend endless nights in a place you don't know or even like that much you will relate and enjoy this simple, honest and sometimes down right funny film. Don't expect it to light up your life but do expect to smile watching it and afterwards even think you might travel there some time... I love Murray anyways but to some fans it would be a bit slow and not side splitting funny as most of his stuff is, but this is not typical Murray. I was surprised I liked Scarlet!

1.5 out of 10 What was all the fuss about?
Andy from Westmeath, 23 Apr 2007
I admit I came to this movie well after all the hype has settled down but I really could not understand what all the fuss was about. It's turgid, dull and uninspiring to say the least. Even the normally gorgeous Scarlett Johansson appears morbid and frumpy, what a disappointment. The only 'highlight' was Bill Murray in a tragi serious role, but even that joy wore thin pretty quickly.

1 out of 10 All hype and no substance
Nguu from Dublin, 03 May 2007
Poor, slow and very disappointing film. Hollywood trying to be a European film in my opinion. Avoid this film as there are plenty of good films from the World Cinema range to choose from. After seeing some of Sofia Coppola other films "Marie Antoinette" & "The Virgin Suicides" in my opinion is a poor director. Sofia Coppola never again for me. All hype and no substance.

4.5 out of 10 One of my favourite movies
Elizabeth from Dublin, 26 Mar 2009
This film, you either love it or hate it. I just get it. It is a beautiful film, Sophie Coppela has a depth to her directing which you can recognise as her style. The main actors are excellent and they capture their connection in a plausible way. Give it a try.

4 out of 10 Don't miss this
Andrew from Tipperary, 07 Apr 2011
Worth renting for the opening alone, this is one of the best on-screen "evolutions of a relationship" ever. Bill Murray is excellent, Scarlett Johansson outstanding. Plenty of humour as well as a beautifully played-out and delicate storyline.

What's it about....
Sofia Coppola's second feature-length film focuses on two guests at a Tokyo hotel--Bob (Bill Murray), a middle-aged actor in town to film whiskey commercials, and Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson), the young wife of a trendy photographer (Giovanni Ribisi) who is always out on a shoot. When Bob isn't on the job taking fragmented direction from the Japanese crew, he's receiving faxes on home decorating from his emotionally distant wife. And while her husband is away, Charlotte...
