The Dysart festival is the first in sophisticated festivals for Irish music lovers. You may not have heard of it before but Dysart has been a mystical retreat for centuries, occupied since beforeViking times, and mentioned in the Leabhr Breac, one of Ireland’s oldest surviving manuscripts.This year is the first year of Dysart Festival and concert series at Dysart Castle, Thomastown, Co Kilkenny. Not only is this a celebration of worldly musical talent but this festival is also designed to celebrate the achievements of one of Ireland’s greatest philosophers. George Berkeley who became the first philosopher of the Americas and founded the libraries of Yale and Harvard wasborn in the Castle that was once the jewel of this site. Money raised from this concert will contributeto the saviour and restoration of this castle to its original state.
