With the hype of “Sex and the City” finally dying down there is another foursome demanding our
attention on the big screen. The stage version of the ABBA musical “Mamma Mia” has been adapted
for the silver screen and is soon becoming another summer blockbuster.
With a surprising, all singing all dancing cast of Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård
and Meryl Streep this melodious tale stands on the success of previous movie musicals adaptations including
Oliver,
My Fair Lady
and of course more recently
Moulin Rouge,
Chicago
and Hairspray.
The story line is about as serious as ABBA’s lyrics are deep, but all the actors have been able
to stoop to the level required. In a nutshell it’s a story about a girl looking to find her biological father
in time for him to walk her down the aisle. From her mother’s diary she narrows it down to three suspects and
brings the likely dads to the Greek island they visited over twenty years ago.
If you’re an ABBA fan (and there are a lot of you out there) you will undoubtedly love this film.
You’ll also enjoy it if you take movies as seriously as ABBA fans take music.
If you like musical movies but couldn’t bear to hear “Dancing Queen” again, then browse our
music
genre for many classic and equally tuneful films.

Screenclick are giving away fantastic VIP tickets to this alternative festival,
which includes use of your own private Tipi Tent, to one lucky member and five friends.
The Dysart festival is the first in sophisticated festivals for Irish music lovers. You may not
have heard of it before but Dysart has been a mystical retreat for centuries, occupied since before
Viking times, and mentioned in the Leabhr Breac, one of Ireland’s oldest surviving manuscripts.
This year is the first year of Dysart Festival and concert series at Dysart Castle, Thomastown,
Co Kilkenny. Not only is this a celebration of worldly musical talent but this festival is also
designed to celebrate the achievements of one of Ireland’s greatest philosophers. George Berkeley
who became the first philosopher of the Americas and founded the libraries of Yale and Harvard was
born in the Castle that was once the jewel of this site. Money raised from this concert will contribute
to the salvage and restoration of this castle to its original state.
With a fantastic line-up including great acts such as Jools Holland, Marc Almond, Blind Boys of Alabama,
John Martyn, Republic of Loose & Gemma Hayes, this year’s new festival will surely keep you happy!
The prize includes; Luxury Tipi tent, Permit for VIP car park and access to two VIP bars -
the Castle Stage Champagne Bar: with stage viewing platform, Fat Boy comfy bags and gourmet food;
and the Panorama Club Hilltop Cocktail Bar with live music, recliners and views of the entire site.
