Based one on of the most acclaimed novels in recent memory, The Kite Runner is a profoundly emotional tale of friendship, family, devastating mistakes and redeeming love. In a divided country on the verge of war, two childhood friends, Amir and Hassan, are about to be torn apart forever. It’s a glorious afternoon in Kabul and the skies are bursting with the exhilarating joy of a kite-fighting tournament. But in the aftermath of the day’s victory, one boy’s fearful act of betrayal will mark their lives forever and set in motion an epic quest for redemption. Now, after 20 years of living in America, Amir returns to a perilous Afghanistan under the Taliban’s iron-fisted rule to face the secrets that still haunt him and take one last daring chance to set things right.

Allison Scott (Katherine Heigl) is an up-and-coming entertainment journalist whose 24-year-old life is on the fast track. But it gets seriously derailed when a drunken one-nighter with slacker Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) results in an unwanted pregnancy. Faced with the prospect of going it alone or getting to know the baby's father, Allison decides to give the lovable doof a chance. French star Marion Cotillard scooped best actress for her role as singer Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose.
The critics' awards come ahead of the Golden Globe nominations on Thursday, which can boost the Oscar chances of lesser known films.

The Golden Compass

The Golden Compass opened at the box office, pulling in €17.7 million. Not a great opening weekend compared to such recent Kids book adaptations as "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Chronicles of Narnia" flicks.
The Golden Compass, whose cast includes Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, also took in €37 million overseas since it began opening last Wednesday in 25 other countries.
The Film follows the adventures of an orphan girl hurled into a parallel world of witches, strange flying machines and talking polar bears and was adpated from Philip Pullman's Dark Materials trilogy..
